When your pet isn’t feeling well, answers matter. At Animal Hospital of Ovilla, we offer complete in-house diagnostics, including advanced equipment and an on-site laboratory. This saves time and money — and most importantly, you don’t have to wait overnight for results. That means your pet gets a diagnosis and needed treatment sooner.
In-House Laboratory
Our hospital can perform various blood screens, pre-anesthetic bloodwork, urinalysis, and other tests on-site instead of sending samples to an outside lab.
Our in-house diagnostics include:
- Liver enzyme screening
- Pancreatic evaluation
- Renal (kidney) profiles
- Complete blood counts
- General chemistries
- Blood gases
- FeLV and FIV testing in cats
- Parvovirus testing in dogs
While we offer an extensive range of on-site diagnostics, some cases may require laboratory work beyond our scope. When that happens, we’re happy to send blood work or other testing to an outside referral lab.
Digital Radiology (X-Rays)
We use advanced digital imaging technology to provide the highest quality of care. X-rays use electromagnetic radiation to image internal structures of the body. They can detect abnormalities, including skeletal fractures, soft-tissue damage, foreign bodies, and dental disease. Orthopedic radiographs and contrast studies require the patient to remain completely still, which may require sedation in some cases. Some specialized procedures may require brief anesthesia.
Ultrasound & Echocardiography
Ultrasound is a powerful diagnostic tool that creates a real-time image of your pet’s body. It reveals important information about internal processes, including the circulatory, skeletal, and gastrointestinal systems. When used alongside X-rays, ultrasound can help identify disease, blockages, fractures, soft tissue damage, and other internal injuries. An echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) provides precise information about heart valves, blood flow, chamber size, and contractions. Both are completely painless and non-invasive, though sedation may be required to keep the patient still.
