Acupuncture & Laser Therapy

Sometimes the best medicine isn’t a pill. At Animal Hospital of Ovilla, we offer acupuncture and cold laser therapy as safe, effective options for managing pain, promoting healing, and improving quality of life. These options are especially useful for pets who may not tolerate traditional medications well.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to treat a variety of conditions and symptoms. Because animal anatomy differs from that of humans and improper technique can cause harm, acupuncture should be performed only by a properly trained veterinarian.

Dr. Stephanie Gorman has completed extensive training through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS), so you can feel confident your pet is in skilled, knowledgeable hands.

Acupuncture can be helpful for treating:

  • Arthritis (hips, shoulders, elbows, back)
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Soft tissue injuries like sprains, strains, and neck pain
  • Spinal cord and neurologic conditions
  • Seizure disorders
  • Chronic digestive disorders (IBD, diarrhea, constipation)
  • Chronic liver or kidney disease
  • Immune-mediated diseases
  • Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS or “dry eye”)
  • Lick granulomas
  • Pain and nausea related to cancer

Cold Laser Therapy

Our cold laser stimulates damaged cells to reduce inflammation and encourage new cell growth. Studies have shown it’s an effective treatment for both chronic and acute pain. We’ve seen particularly positive results in pets with arthritis and joint pain, and we include laser therapy with every spay and neuter surgery to support healing.

Laser therapy can help with acute conditions such as:

  • Wounds
  • Infections
  • Allergies and inflammation
  • Tooth extraction pain relief
  • Post-surgical healing and pain relief

And chronic conditions such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Degenerative joint disease
  • Tendonitis
  • Sprains, strains, and fractures
  • Periodontal disease
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Lick granulomas
